Link building would be a tank if appropriate ON page SEO isn’t there. Writing an SEO friendly blog post is a distinctive procedure to what we normally follow. However, the prime motive is to attract as many users as possible. Getting Google attention isn’t much difficult if we leverage various aspects of content writing along with ON page strategies.

Before anything, a blog post is a piece of content that should be engaging enough to keep the interest of an audience. Here I would like to share few simple tips on SEO Friendly Blog posts that will surely make Google recognize your hard work.  Now let’s begin and tell Google that we exist.

8 Tips to Write a Search Engine Friendly Blog Post

1. Understand your Audience:

Every niche has a particular section of an audience to which it caters. Select any niche that you find would be worth reading for, understand the taste of your audience. What they would like to read? What will keep them engaged? Afterall, they are the ones for whom we are writing.

For example, if your audience is emerging entrepreneurs. Then look out for those things that should be worth reading for them. For instance, they might be interested in Best Productivity Tools That every Entrepreneur Should use? Or Online Business Marketing, it could be anything relevant. Make a complete research on your audience before starting writing, this kind of incisive separates you and gives you an edge over your competitors.

2. Keyword Research:

For those who don’t know what keyword means in SEO, “Keywords are the terms that your audience searches on Google or any other search engine”. Depending on your niche, there will be keywords on which you would love to get high ranking in search engines. Spend your quality time to make a good list of high traffic keywords relevant to your niche.

For that purpose, you can use various Keyword Research tools that are available online. If you are a beginner and on a budget then I would recommend you to go for “Google Keyword Planner” which is completely free to use and yield results that would take your business  to a whole new level.

3. Appropriate Title:

Pick a title that suits perfectly to what you are trying to convey. According to Google Guidelines, title should be or under 70 Characters, more than 70 will be omitted in the search engine. Include your focus keyword in the title to inform user about the relevancy of your post. Title should be engaging enough to make users click on it. Also, search engines look at URL to determine the relevancy of anblog post, your URL should reflect your post title. URL helps user to understand the structure of your website.

For instance, Let’s take an example: “5 Tools Every Facebook Marketer Should Use”  Engaging Enough? Here the main topic is simply Facebook Marketing, then the working title “Facebook Marketing Tools” and it ended up being “5 Tools Every Facebook Marketer Should Use”.  Always try to make your title catchy enough to yield high CTR.

4. Use Headings & Paragraphs:

Everyone has this question in mind “How much influence does headings have on SEO?” Well, it has a lot value to SEO, Google interprets the main topic of a blog post through headings. However, there are other more important things that will help your ranking, but its imperative to have a well structured heading to help visitors. Use <h1> tag for main heading, <h2> & <h3> tag for subheadings. Use paragraphs for better readability.

Now you are going to ask “How many <h1> tags should be there in one blog post?”

5. Body & Meta Optimization

While writing content make sure to add keywords throughout your post in a natural way. Overuse of keyword gives a red flag to Google which may result in penalization of a post. Handle this section with close attention, too much use of keyword continuously may irritate user. Be smart enough to add keywords at correct places in a reader friendly way. According to Google guidelines, the keyword density could be anywhere in between 1% to 2%. More than that may harm your website. Bring diversity to anchor text use.

There were days when Meta description used to rule the SEO. Back in the days, search engines used to decide ranking on the basis of title and meta description keyword relevancy. Today, it may not have that much effect as used to be, but still it gives reader an idea what your article is all about. Appropriate and engaging meta description may result in high CTR. Here is the example:

6. Optimize Images

In addition to quality content, it’s imperative to have optimized images to explain your content explicitly. Search engines look for “images with Alt text”. Alt text describes your image which helps search engine to explicate the meaning of the image. To see any image’s alt text, just hover the cursor over the box, the box will pop up to show alt text. Alt text helps search engine to understand the image, without it search engines cannot interpret for what purpose the image is. Move the cursor over the image to see its Alt text.

Use a free tool called “Screaming Frog” to know whether your blog has optimized images or not. You can use any free available online tool to optimize your images.

7. Internal Linking

When possible, link your relevant articles internally to give reader & search engine relevancy of your content. For instance, if you have written a article on say “How to lose weight” & “Food that you should eat lose weight”. Both the articles are relevant to each other. If a user reads former one, then he might be interested in reading later one also. Interlink only relevant content that will be useful for the reader. This will not only result increase in traffic but also lower the bounce rate.

Great Content attracts Natural Links.

8. Review:

Let’s accept it that no one is perfect, even professional writers do commit mistakes while writing. At last, take a quick read through your content to look out for mistakes. To easily & quickly correct Grammatical mistakes use any tool available online. I personally recommend you to use “Grammerly”  which is free to use, just sign up and explore its advantages.

Gone are the days when Black Hat SEO techniques used to rule the web. With Google updates, the era of spamming has gone. Nowadays, “Content is considered as a King” which gives a maximum probability of getting highest ranking in Google and other search engines.

    Thanks for this post.
I have a query regarding indexing a sitemap.

In my sitemap i used “.html” extension for the pages. Now i want to replace it with trailing slashes (/). I have url in bulk. How to proceed. Should i use .htaccess 301 redirect for all (.html) files. But in sitemap, I still have .html pages.
